Where did i ever say i wanted a public pension?
By saying this: "I am just tired of 'public servants' taking money from hard paying tax contributors that get little in return for their money."
If you have all of the answers, run for office and fix it.
Are the sewers collapsing all over town? Not in my neighborhood that I know of. Are the police and fire pensions underfunded? If so, the money probably went into other things. Are you suggesting Hagnauer pocketed those funds? Do you know how pension funds work and how they are deemed "underfunded"? Look up the word actuarial.
It's so frustrating to read posts where it's clear that people have no idea, other than what they hear at the tavern, as to how things work.
Simple math. A city, county or state determine a fiscal year budget. They determine how much money they need to levy for through taxes. They have choices to raise taxes or leave them where they are. If they don't, infrastructure deteriorates. If they do, they don't get re-elected.
Granite City leaders should have seen this day coming all the way back to the days of Partney. They knew they had an industrial town that breaks down things like roads and sewers. They should have gradually sold bonds or raised taxes and put a preventative maintenance plan in place instead of a reactionary plan where things get this bad.
Again, if you can do better, sign up. If not, continue spouting your tavern gathered information because you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Talking points aren't always fact.
