    If you want to drop taxes, let's get rid of township governments. They are a total waste of duplicated services. Anything being done by these dinosaur organizations can be done by adding some job duties to the city employees.

    Nameoki Township is a major abuser. That area should be part of Pontoon or Granite City government.

    The city council in Granite City also serves as the town board. Council members are paid a monthly salary to vote on the township budget. That's an additional expense.

    School board members aren't paid. Why are council members? Do we need a park board or could the parks be a department in the city? Lots of places for potential money savings. Or lots of opportunity to raise taxes even higher.

    We vote for the people who make those decisions yet the voter turnout last election was just over ten percent. You asked for it. You got it.
