I'd be careful of what prerequisites we have for the Executive Branch.
A small libertarian streak runs in my veins once in a while and if the people want a president who served in the military, then the people can convey that in their votes.
Some will bring military service, others will bring knowledge of law and policy to the table... and Trump won't bring a damn thing.
All the same, that's for the people to decide.
People who serve, who wrote that blank check no doubt deserve gratitude....and especially those whose blank check meant they had to give all.
However, while that should be appreciated and honored...it does not mean that it needs to be canonized (well perhaps some) for those who gave all...
But for those living among us, the people should still have the right to decide and we should put fewer and not more restrictions on eligibility for office.
The one requirement that should remain is the voice of the people.... and hopefully the president-elect in 2020 will actually bring something to the table so that we have a President and not some slumlord tenant occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
But if people say that's what they want, that's what we have to live with.
I would love that the Executive Branch could include more qualifications selfishly, but as it dilutes the will of the people, we have to stick with what we have.
I further hate how the election has to be bought and how that definitely takes the voice of the people out of the equation....but even if we took preventative measures, something else will then dilute the democratic character of our republic.
