So thats all you have to do is see who has the best pitching in each league and thats who will play in the World series ??? Well hell, why not just start the WS 3 days after the regular season is over if that is the case?? And by the way, if you are just looking at the numbers, using your criteria Tampa Bay should be playing the Dodgers in the World Series. You are wise enough to comment after the fact and to parrot the old cliche that good pitching beats good hitting, so ill give you that much. The Nationals actually had the best hitting team in the NL and the 5th best hitting team in all of baseball, so their hitting was probably a bigger reason that they made the playoffs than their pitching (Imagine that) Yes, teams play in different sized parks and some teams have domes and some dont and the AL faces better hitting because they have the DH, but even so the Reds pitching staff squeaked by the Nats for the season in team pitching on one site. ( And no i dont think the Reds pitching is better) Being the best overall team in baseball the Astros had top 3 hitting and pitching, but they will still go through the motions and play the series out for the hell of it.
The numbers dont always tell the whole story, Washington edged out LA because Kershaw couldnt hold a late game five lead and gave up two home runs. Kershaw isnt what he once was, but hes still pretty damn good and LA, not Washington had the best team pitching in 2019. Washingtons starters, other than the very average Anibal Sanchez finished up very well, and Scherzer came back strong after having some physical ailments for a while. They also shored up the relief pitching at the trade deadline which helped the team make the playoffs as a wild card.
Both of these teams have very good pitching (Starting pitching anyway) and both can hit. Just because the Nats pitchers silenced the Cardinal bats breaking a few records in doing so, it doesnt mean they will do the same thing to the Astros. I think people saw what Washington did to St. Louis and figured damn they can pitch. Ya, they can pitch, but their hitting was every bit as important to them making the playoffs and statistically even more so. I dont dislike either team, but i like the AL over the NL, and i like several of the Nationals players so i dont much care who wins this. Im fairly confident that Washington wont be doing any more sweeping though.
The best team doesnt always win, Illinois neat the 6th rated team in the country yesterday.
