    Downtown Diner Archived Message

Channel 5 will be at the new downtown diner this Friday to feature the changes in downtown GC.

Of course in true fashion, according to the facebook people, there is a group of angry citizens who are going to go down and show their asses for the cameras. They want to bring attention to the flood we had three weeks ago.

Really people? You don't think the city already got some publicity over this flood? Is your fifteen minutes of fame really that important to you?

What would you have city leaders do? Are you ready to fork out millions of dollars for sewer repairs? Are you ready to take alternate routes for weeks on end as streets are dug up to put in the new lines? Have you all done anything to protect your home from flooding? Have you installed a check valve in your line? Have you kept your floor drain plug in and checked it periodically for a good seal? Have you tried to seal you foundation against ground water?

Okay, this was a terrible thing. Mrs. O had to vacuum a little water out of our basement but our plug held, our drain trench worked like it was supposed to. In other words, we didn't expect the city to take care of us. I know that sounds harsh and cruel but come on, you bought a house in a river bed. What did you expect? I've lived here for over 70 years and we've endured flooding over the decades.

Back to the protestors, please do us all a favor so the community doesn't look like a bunch of redneck hoosiers. Put your teeth in, both uppers and lowers. Don't wear your pajama pants and please wear appropriate under garments. A morning shower would help along with some toothpaste. If you don't have anything but wife beater and Harley shirts, please stop by Wal Mart early and buy a play white shirt.

Your right to protest shouldn't put a blemish on the owners of that diner or the other businesses downtown.

This kind of protest belongs at city hall, not in front of a privately owned business. Then of course when said business pulls out of town, you'll blame Hagnauer and company. It's a shame that you feel like you're more important than the business owner just because you want you face on the news for thirty seconds.

    Thank you.
