The Cubs just picked up left handed reliever Derek Holland from the Giants in what amounts to a long relief depth move. The Cubs could use another bullpen arm, but this guy isnt the answer. The Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers could all use a quality BP arm at this point, and the two best bets may be Scott Oberg and Mychel Givens. Oberg particularly has been dynomite this season, but Givens has been coming on well for the dreadful Orioles also. These two wont come cheap but they wont cost you a top Minor league prospect either. A team can get a Yates or Will Smith, but the cost will be much higher.
The Cubs are said to be talking with the Rockies about Blackmon and the Tigers about Castellanos, picking up either of these guys would be a major boost for any team. The Dodgers are right now far and away the best team in the NL, but the best team doesnt always win. No team in the NL has much of a chance to defeat the Dodgers without making a killer deadline deal or two.
The Yankees and Astros look really good. The Stros are playing with great players on the DL and have been doing so all season. Carlos Correa is a monster, and this team will be even better when he soon returns. The Yankees simply bludgeon teams, but they make have a few pitching issues that they may be looking to address. Look for Yasiel Puig to be traded, and one possible destination may be St.Louis. Yes, hes mentally unstable but he does have a lot of natural talent.
