Opie, you are correct that I would object or condemn anyone that suggested violence against the President or his family or took actions such as spitting on someone etc. Doesn't matter who you are or what you believe that is assault. As far as vile names or attacking one's appearance the President himself has legitimized that in many people's minds. We have the unique opportunity with this President to see his own words on a daily basis, we see him lie time and time again. We see him incite his supporters to hate at his rallys. We see him spew hate and create divides among the American people. I don't support the extreme on either side and to me Trump is extreme. I've said this before, I was optimistic that Trump would surround himself with good people, listen to them, and, at the very least, conduct himself as an adult. I knew I wouldn't like his agenda, but I really hoped for the best and it's become worse than I imagined. I don't think the Dems will choose someone on the extreme left to challenge Trump, I really don't. Definitely don't agree with your last line, I absolutely don't believe Trump will be reelected.
