I have an illness that is also a curse, and yes i understand i left myself wide open on this one. Since i have lived in Pontoon Beach i must have chased down 40 loose or stray dogs over the years and probably more. I cant believe i havent been bitten, but im sure its coming. I have a few stories that boggle the mind that prove without a doubt that many dogs are much smarter than their so called owners. I know criminal charges were being considered on one case in particular. It was really a bad situation. A few days ago i chased two black dogs one a lab mix and the little one some kind of pug. I got them away from 111 and back over to Mallard Park where 90% of the sadly uncared for dogs usually come from. Today i heard my two and the neighbors dogs barking so i looked out my back door and across Long Lake saw the same two running loose again. So i go grab two leashes and head out my door wondering if i would drive or walk to the area i saw them. I was glad to see they were running back towards Mallard Park. So here i am walking down Mallard Drive asking people that i saw if they knew who had two black dogs that were missing. One guy simply points me down the street in the direction i was going as though he was thinking, "Oh, those two dogs are running again?" I finally got to a trailer where i said to several people outside, do you know whose two dogs might be loose? One girl was trying to help and this woman (im really trying to be nice here) says, i bet its our damn two. I told her, the little one almost bought it on 111 and she acted like she was irritated at them and not one iota concerned that one of them or both could have been run over. I said to her, they were headed this way but i lost track of them. She then told the girl to call for them, then mumbles something and finally says, oh well, if they get hit they get hit. Then she said next time, mind your own business as i was walking away. Then of course i couldnt let it go and said, Ya whatever you do dont take care of them. By that time they did run home after the girl called out to them, so i probably should have just went home, but i had to say one more thing after she made that comment. I said something along the line of some people dont deserve to have animals because their animals are smarter than they are. Im not altogether sure she heard me but the guy that pointed in that direction when i walked by was chuckling as i walked back. Maybe she was right, i probably should have minded my own business, but if i bought these dogs a little time im good with the end result. Her i dont give a rats a** attitude just made me hate Mallard Park more than i already did. I remembered the number of her trailer and if they get loose again which they will probably tomorrow if i can find a home for them and catch she wont be getting them back. I feel bad for the girl, she was maybe 13, this is going to end bad for her before its over because those two dogs wont make the summer. None of the adts at tat trailer GAF about those two running loose and riling up every other dog in the neighborhood and they acted like they didnt even know they were gone. I know if i would have just did nothing and saw one or both of them on 111 i would have it on my mind for months, i told you it was a sickness. Maybe ill go up to the Village tomorrow and ask them if they can maybe send them a reminder that we have leash laws, not that it will do any good.
