Paul Goldschmidt is a classy guy and a damn good player, this is a major net gain because IMO the cost was not all that great. Basically they lose two fringe major leagers, at elast to this point, one good prospect and what amounts to a future Pick. They didnt steal Goldschmidt who is only a one year rental, but they damn sure didnt over pay. Though both very young, Kelly IMO was way over rated, and Weaver is a 500 pitcher if that. The other assets lost probably wont be huge also.
This puts them in the same ballpark with the Brewers and slightly behind the Cubs as far as over all talent for my perspective. The NL East is loading up and now it appears the Central is answering back. If the season started tomorrow id pick the Cubs to win the division by 4 games over the Brewers and six over St.Louis. The season doesnt start tomorrow so a few tweaks by any of these three teams can change my order pretty quick. Also injuries is always going to be a factor.
Goldschmidt got off to a horrible start last year and some thought he was near the end of the rope, but he bounced back real well. He is as smart of a baseball player as is in the game today as is noted by the way he steals bases even though hes really not a very fast runner. They dont have to worry about who is going to be playing first base, because it is going to be this guy. This stadium is not nearly the hitters park that he had in Arizona, but i can see him hitting .285, with 28 home runs and a 110 RBI's and he will steal 15 bases while hes at it. His defense is top notch, and their isnt a more decent guy in all of baseball.
