Not a big Cardinal Nation or Cardinal way person, as an Orioles fan. In fact while the FBI was investigating the Cardinals organization i didnt hear much of the Cardinal way talk during that time. If it wasnt for Joe Torre they probably would have got more of a punishment than the hand slap they received. Oquendo almost became manager when Matheny was hired, but he was passed aside for one reason. Todays MLB managers have to deal a lot with the sports media, and the thought was that Oquendo would be a disaster in the post game media question and answer sessions. The whole Cardinal Nation thing and the we have the best fans in baseball is all garbage. Its garbage when other teams do it also because baseball fans are baseball fans, period. Every city has great fans and every city has fans that couldnt name three players on the team or where first base is.
