SO they took it down at Forest Park...

This was a subject that a facebook friend posted and got 50 replies or more --- and two people that I knew who were friends but on the opposite issue... probably aren't social media friends.

You'd be surprised to know - I'm against it.

It's a part of our history - whether shameful or not -- it's a part of who we are.

The ideas of the confederacy are not to be honored.. 'States Rights' for the bull$#!+ the Southern States advocated back then is similar to the bull$#!+ they advocate for today.

They are largely faux-Christians who try to find a loophole to avoid human decency in their policy making.

Yes -- I'm against the Confederacy and its treasonous flag and its treasonous battle flag...and anything to do with it.

    However --

People have a right to wave that flag.

If they like loser flags -- they are free to make the statement "I love losers!" all the day long.

However, the real losers were the people at the top....the ones who made the decisions -- who sent the people off to fight --- and who put their fortunes behind this immoral cause.

However, what we cannot dishonor are the many soldiers who were forced to fight for their states' cause. If you lived in Virginia -- you were likely made to don a gray uniform and fight for old Dixie. If you were in Illinois, you would have been forced to remain true to the red, white, and blue.

They are still veterans of war - and they should not be dishonored in any way -- the people at the bottom are often the pawns on the chessboard.

So I am against taking this monument down --- and it really begs the question of what we choose to honor and choose not to honor and if we're not careful --- we will be guilty of double standards galore.

I hate the Confederacy and all its loser flags --- but I do not hate the people who were just doing their duty under the flag that flew over their land.

I think people would rather erase history and suppress freedom of speech for fear of offending someone.

It will not change who we are. If anything -- it will make us forget our mistakes and repeat them again.

Of course, the South really hasn't learned from its mistakes....and is still pulling that states' rights garbage. Nothing new under the sun over Dixie.
