Our monthly breakfast group hooked up today and as expected, the main topic was the President and the wall.
One particular friend who is one of the strongest union people I know was very outspoken about the proposed tariff and how it will effect the cost of goods sold in America.
Being the antagonist I am, I asked, "what about all those union jobs created when we build the wall"? He answered, "well that's good, we need jobs".
Me: "You're a strong union man. Why aren't you preaching buy American instead of worrying about Mexico"? Him: " We should buy American every time we can". (Then a strong outburst about Wal Mart, too graphic for this board)
Me:"What about security and the fact that most of the illegals we have in the country come from Mexico"? Him: "Yes, that needs to stop even if we have to use the National Guard to protect the border and back up the border patrol"
Me: So you agree that we have a problem of lack of jobs(especially in the construction industry), we have a problem with people buying cheap goods from abroad which has created part of the job loss and you agree our borders are weak and need to be strengthened? So what exactly is it about the wall that pisses you off so much?
Him: Because it was that no good bas****'s idea and I hate that guy.
And there you have voter intelligence at it's finest. The rest of the group just laughed. LOL
