Granite City Council, You have got to be kidding!Archived Message

I have never heard of such stupidity from a group of elected officials. Over reach by local government is an understatement to say the least. How can a town have enough power, that they can force an investor to live (6 months) in a rehab property before they can sell it. I have no problem with an investor having to obtain a work permit, or the property having to be inspected once the work is completed, but, what is permit(s)? Multiple permits? Why would more than one work permit be required on the same property? Would it have anything to do with a creative rule or ordinance that allows you to reach into the pockets of the investor multiple times for the same project?
People, is it any wonder why this town sits decaying and falling down around us? The ridiculous amount of hoops you have to jump through to get anything accomplished in this town is a big part of the reason.
"Officials said they want to thwart property owners who may be "flipping" houses, or buying them cheap, making quick repairs and selling them at a profit."
Why? What would be the reason? Why do they care if someone buys abandoned, derelict or foreclosed property to rehab and sell for a profit? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Isn't that far better than letting them sit and rot and eventually cave in on themselves or having to be condemned? Or sitting in disrepair and becoming another flop house for the local homeless or drug attics to break into to get out of the weather?
This town is FULL of properties just like this and I would think the city officials would roll out the welcome mat for anyone willing to step up and rehab these old places, instead of making it impossible to do so! Granite City has been swirling around the bottom of the toilet for quite a while now, and the local government just keeps pumping the flush handle. Remember this BS at election time folks!
