I don't know if it's still done, but there used to be security people, plain clothes I believe.
Like I said, I've ridden Metro many times. I know there have been a couple incidents (sh*t happens anywhere and everywhere these days), but I've never seen anything that would make me uneasy.
But I'm wondering why there aren't monitors/cameras on every car with a security person at every other station? With the cost of that kind of technology today that would be a lot cheaper than putting a $75,000 a year security person on each train.
(I have a sneaky feeling most of this stuff happens in Illinois, east of downtown ESTL, before Fairview Heights. Like I said, out lovely local media is good at using blanket statements to make the city of St. Louis look unsafe, not reporting crime west of the city. Oh, sure, they do the good stuff too...but the bad stuff is what sticks with people. People are wising up. Several St. Louis city neighborhoods (CWE, Lafayette Square, Benton Park, Tower Grove, Old North, Bevo (because of the Bosnians) and now starting even in Hyde Park) have turned around. I have a sister who used to live in Shaw in the mid 60's. It really went down into the 70's to the late 80's. Today typical homes there are going for $350,000 and up. It takes people who get up off their butts and do something, rather than cringe and cowardly run when sh*t happens.)
