    In the 50's you could feel free and safe to pick up a hitchhiker along Route 66 and give them a ride from here to Chicago. Who would do that now?

    Although you would probably be safer picking up a hitchhiker today than in the 50's. (I don't really know about that one though, I have no data for it)

    In the 60's we left our front doors unlocked, slept with our windows open and invited strangers who came to our church home for Sunday dinner. Who would do that now?

    Even though home invasions are less common today than in the 60's. I still sleep with my windows open on pleasant nights, and I don't really live in a great neighborhood.

    People still invite people they meet in church to their homes.

    Although I'll agree, I don't want any of these Syrians coming hear (unless already have a steadfast love for pork steak, some ARE Christians), the US isn't more dangerous. On the contrary, it's safer, but people are more scared.
