If everyone knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the consequences for taking an innocent life would be spending the rest of your life in prison with zero chances of ever being released was the end result.....violent crimes would drastically reduce.
I doubt it. Sociopaths don't care. What about all the non-violent and victimless criminals in prison? We do know that prison, more often than not, turns them from non-violent -> violent. And your make them slaves idea, if we were to "pay" them $7 an hour, they would have to work almost 20 hours hours every day to pay for what it cost to keep someone in prison. Working 20 hours a day, I'm not sure anyone could be productive enough to be worth 7 an hour.
Don't most of these mass shooter types wind up offing themselves anyway? What good is a prison going to do for that?
