    Two deaths under investigation

My last nursing position I held was at this facility. I was the Quality Assurance nurse.
The owners of this facility brought me to the carpet one morning to reprimand and threaten my position there. My misdeed was questioning the psyche doctor on the need for the continued psychotropic medications prescribed for a particularly alert and orientated patient who had ONE episode of aberrant behavior 5 months prior upon her admission. The medication nurse brought it to my attention .. the little senior lady would take the medications, dump them in her palm, pick out her aspirin and tell us the only other medicine she needed was a physic once a week for her bowels. The rest of the meds would be disposed of by the nurses. This had gone on for months with the patient refusing the psyche meds and the nurses re-ordering them .. being billed to Medicaid/Medicare. I asked her primary doctor first showing him the documentation of her refusal along with no observation of aberrant behavior. He stated it would be fine with him if they were all discontinued, but I would need to consult with the FACILITIE'S psyche doctor, which was MY WRONDOING!!!! He immediately went to the owners and they twisted it to appear as if I was suggesting needed medications to be withheld. KICKBACKS!!!! I walked out completely disgusted and never returned to nursing again except for consult with state regulations and volunteer for possible elderly neglect and abuse suspicions from time to time. Privately owned nursing homes have zero quality care, that is a fact. They are always understaffed or find justification by proclaiming "we" meet state standards .. yes, they do, minimal state staffing requirements, certainly not to be used as a schedule standard. I wish it didn't take these deaths to sound an alarm, sirens have been going off for years.
