WE need to start electing people NOT in the city circle who will, beyond a shadow of a doubt, have our KIDS' best interest at heart.

First, those people "not in the circle" have to run for office.

Well, I think WE are demanding a forensic audit

Agreed. Who pays for it? According to a very god friend of mine who is a CPA, a detailed audit for a government entity could cost hundreds of thousands. How much good does that do if this forensic audit substantiates the one that's been done.

WE as a community can demand YOU as the school board freeze YOUR (not our teachers') salary and eliminate any perks.

I've tried to clear this up before. The members of the Granite City School Board as well as any other school board in Illinois are NOT compensated for their service. It's painfully apparent that people don't get that.

School administrators do however get paid for their services rendered just as we all do. Here's what I learned through research today. (Translated, the McDonalds senior coffee clutch)

This year, the current school year, all district administrators did indeed take a complete pay freeze on their salary. This includes a freeze in their "seniority" step which I always laugh about. The fact another year on the job merits a raise is beyond comprehension for those of us who held jobs in the private sector. According to the retired school official we talked to today, the only way anyone in administration will receive any additional pay is if they are in retirement year and will get compensated for unused sick days they have accumulated.

I hope my source is correct. I hate to keep polluting these types of threads with facts when a good piece of gossip is so much more interesting but what the hell.

I think another thing that people confuse is a raise via promotion as opposed to a general salary increase. When a teacher earns another degree level, they are moved on a salary schedule to a point of merit within that degree. If a teacher moves from a classroom teaching position to a principal position, he/she is compensated according to the new job duties. That isn't a raise. It's a promotion like going from a general worker to a foreman. Sometimes when we think a teacher is getting a big raise it's actually because they are moving up the chain of command.
