How about band going from $0 to $75 per semester?? That's $600 per student for their high school career. They would probably lose quite a few students there. For some students, that could be the difference of possibly going to college on a music scholarship or not going at all.

Cutting elementary PE would definitely be something that shouldn't even be considered. If you turn on the news or read the internet, you see/hear a lot regarding obesity. How would cutting PE help any of that? Then, they move onto jr. high, almost completely out of shape, probably having no basis for any type of sport. From there, they don't play sports in jr. high because now there would be a fee that some parents may not buy into (either because of the money or if everyone pays, then everyone should play regardless of skill). After that, all this lack of physical activity then reflects in the high school teams.

What's the right answer for a fix? Well, I couldn't say for sure, but some cuts obviously don't make sense. Proper fiscal management is a start, but that bus may have already left the station. Preparing for rainy days was not part of the plan apparently.
