I have zero tolerance for anyone texting while driving. In fact,it infuriates me when I see people doing it! If I were the parent of one of these kids it would not have entered my mind to go to a news station over this. But, you can bet that I would have voiced my opinion and concern to the coach about it.
If he had a decent attitude and reaction when I talked to him about it, most likely it would have ended right there and went no further.
Now, let's look at the story this way...a very different ending. What if this parent had this picture and did nothing with it. Thank God this didn't happen, but what if there had been an accident after this picture was taken?
This situation could have turned tragic for not only the kids and coach that was in his car, but other vehicles involved in a wreck as a result of him texting while driving.
Then this mother that is being accused of "craving attention" and "wanting her moment of fame" would have been accused of being a lazy no count sorry excuse of a mother for not taking appropriate action and going to the authorities with this picture.
The way I see it, she was damned if she did and damned if she didn't. As parents, as soon as our kids begin the process of learning how to drive a car we all sound like a broken record.
#1. Seat Belt always
#2. Never ever drink and drive
#3. No cell phones and absolutely NO texting while driving!
This kids looks up and sees his coach doing what most parents try to pound into their teens heads to never do...texting and driving. This kid snapped a picture for proof. Who knows, maybe he thought nobody would believe him if he didn't have proof.
"My guess is the kid who filmed this doesn't get much playing time and took this opportunity to get even for his lack of talent."
I just have to ask you Opi, how the HELL do you know about any lack of talent concerning this young man?
"The mother or father who went to the news and thought they would get the coach fired only put more credibility to this (kid's immature behavior.) Perhaps if mommmy and daddy worried more about what the boy did in the classroom than what he does on the soccer field, they might get it."
"this (kid's immature behavior.)"
THIS KID'S IMMATURE BEHAVIOR??? Am I reading this right? You are calling the kid immature for not wanting to ride in a car where the ADULT is TEXTING WHILE DRIVING?
I just have to ask you, what would you call the coaches behavior? I'm not a teacher, but I hold myself to a "high enough standard" to not risk the lives of others by texting while driving.
