There still exists the possibility of the same wanton neglect with tires. I'm not sure of it, but I believe all tires are manufactured to six sigma specs. (extremely low rates of defects). I find it amazing I how often I get in someone else's car, and know by the time we hit 25 MPH, there is a crippled tire on the car. Tires are one of the most important parts of a car, to any competent driver, tires scream 'change me, change me' when things are going afoul, yet most pay no attention to them. Text messaging on the road is about as dangerous as driving with a bad tire. Why is the penalty more? If you kill somebody, you killed somebody. There is no taking that back. Game Over. I'm not sure how you can punish a reasonable person anymore than allowing them to live with the guilt of killing someone; I'm not sure it's possible to punish an unreasonable person with out spending more than I make a year to keep them behind bars.
