You can not stop the federal government. You can express your opinions but really no one can stop the feds but the feds!! The Mayor is to smart to not get involved. He asked railroad to consider the residents and their safety and they did and choose to close the tracks. They decided that providing other towns and communities with goods and services far outweighs the little town of Granite City. Granite City is a dot, Mitchell is a speck, Pontoon is a bigger speck in comparison to the railroad and their mission. Local politicians hands are tied.....they have no say in this closing. All of this has been a waste of time since the beginning just a political circus the only one whom benefited from the railroad and the opposition was Helen Hawkins and the recognition she got from it. I feel so sorry for the residents there. I would hate to be boxed in like that but that is what the railroad did to West Granite by the School District.
