I received in my e-mail box a survey put out by the Boy Scouts of America whether or not they should allow gay youth to join as Scouts or allow 'avowed' or 'practicing' homosexuals to serve as adult leaders.

I am appalled that this is even an issue. I can somewhat see why they would not allow adults to become leaders, even though I oppose their exclusion...but I think it's downright damaging to exclude youth who have declared themselves as gay.

So anyway if there's a vote...I think I"m on the correct side of this issue.

I think eventually what will happen is they will leave the decision to charter organizations. One of the things that drives scouting is the Mormon Church. I think units registered to Mormon churches and other more rigid denominations will continue to discriminate according to their beliefs.

Some units chartered to secular organizations may lift the ban, depending on the degree of boneheadedness of those adults involved.

What is going to be saddening...that even if the lifting of this ban stands a chance in hell...in this utmost conservative organization...is that what will start to happen is a chasm and there will be specified gay troops...and non-gay troops.. I can just see it forming...

I still support the movement, in spite of itself...but when people like Rick Perry (who is an Eagle Scout) have weighed in in favor of continued discrimination...it kind of sets the tone that if things change, they won't change much.

I think they would do well to learn from the Girl Scouts who have taken a completely opposite path, away from discrimination and boneheadedness.

I have more views on this...but first wanted to see what the GCG crowd feels.
