A friend of mine sent me this. Fred Bathon, Author of “Rigging Tax Sales for Dummies” For decades Madison County has been a tranquil lake, with joyous revelers lying on the beach, drinking Mai Tai’s, and swimming leisurely in the lakes beautiful, clear, blue waters. Jobs were plentiful, salaries were high, patronage and nepotism have been the rule of the day, and everyone fortunate enough to enter the lake could anticipate a wonderful life, with healthcare, luxurious vacations, guaranteed jobs for family and friends, preferential treatment, and ultimately lucrative pensions to enable all to lounge forever in comfort in beautiful Lake Madison. Then, unbeknownst to any, a tiny fissure appeared in 2009 when County Treasurer, Fred Bathon retired to his $70,000/yr pension. Last Tuesday with the guilty plea by Bathon to charges of rigging the real estate Tax Sales at the expense of unfortunate citizens, the lake sprung a leak and torrents of water began to rush down the gaping hole. The hole became known as the Bathon Vortex. None of the revelers professed any knowledge at all about the existence of the treacherous whirlpool. So upon seeing the initial break, they began swimming casually away from the perilous eddy, seeking safety in their purity and total lack of responsibility about the disaster which lay silently below the surface. The Bathon Vortex began growing and growing, reaching many who could no longer swim fast enough to escape the rushing waters of the hole now racing toward them. Please follow along in this story of the Bathon Vortex so that you might fully understand its power and the full magnitude of its reach. This Vortex is not only about the founder for whom it is named. It is not possible that Bathon worked his scheme in the County Administration Building for four - five years and not a single co-worker, nor supervisor ever objected or commented in any way. Several highly placed officials are up to their eye-balls and cowering under their desks waiting for the next shoe to fall. The US Attorney did describe the case as a “conspiracy”. One shoe that they are not anticipating is the concerted action of thousands of outraged Madison County citizens who have had enough.
