This is what is going on in the Assessor race in Nameoki Township.
The current Assessor Elaine Beckland says:
Truth is:
I found my house in October 2011. I got the loan to buy it in November 2011. I was under contract in December 2011. I closed on it January 2012. In November and December I was meeting contractors there and hiring them to do the repairs I wanted done. Spending all of my time outside of w...ork there cleaning, removing wallpaper, and painting. Yes, this was done before closing. My petition was challenged For not being a resident of the Township for one year at the time I signed my Statement of candidacy. Technically I was a month short in ownership! It was heard by the Nameoki electoral board, run by Ken Davis, and they voted against me. So I appealed this decision and took it to Madison County. My reasoning is I was invested in this house financially, physically, and emotionally since November 2011. In November we paid for inspections and actually hired the general contractor! When the contract was signed in December we started moving t...hings in and aggressively getting the house ready. I was hoping that my actions and intent would be worth something! It didn't, the judge upheld the decision of the Nameoki board. This means that my name will not be on the ballot. I can, however, be elected! I filed the paperwork with the County Clerk to be a write-in candidate. I was on the phone with the State and explained my situation extensively and with much detail. I am not trying to be dishonest about anything! The reason I can be a write-in is because the Statement of Candidacy for a write-in is signed in April. So in April I will have no problem proving beyond anyones doubt that I was a resident for one year.
I want to thank all of the people who have supported me, it is humbling to know that there are people on my side and I want to do a good job for all of you! Please write my name on the blank line that will appear on the ballot for Assessor. We can still do this!
