There may be something to those who are disabled and unable to cook for themselves to somehow have access to prepared foods...but man..these restaurants are not the most economical choices, thus making the price of the food benefit more expensive. It really is getting ridiculous out there. No one should starve and I'd vehemently stand up for that...however, I don't see where that translates to the entitlement to have food prepared for oneself. Working people fight like hell and eat ramen packets to keep off food stamps...so that their taxes are buying KFC for someone else? The disabled can eat a lot better with meals on wheels or other community based services.. Restaurant prices represent the highest possible price on any food offering. If a pound of beef is $1.80 -- and a Quarter pound burger is going for say $2.50...the profit on that burger is outlandish, even with the bun that costs a quarter and condiments that go for pennies. So .45 worth of meat, .25 worth of bun, pennies on the pickles, ketchup and mustard, and about a .15 slice of cheese. IT costs them a dollar...and costs us $2.50. What that means is that SNAP will pay $2.50 for the benefit of a prepared burger...instead of the money that could go to buy the meat and buns to make 4 hamburgers for the same price. If you go to aldi and say you can get 1 pound of meat for !.80 and a package of buns for 1.00.. It's a little over $2.50 -- but you have FOUR quarter pound hamburgers. So no...that is not a good use of tax dollars. That's wrong! Prepared food...while often of lower quality is still considered a premium. The reason that Quarter pounder costs four times more than what I can make at home is because someone is making it..and there are lights, heating, gas, and cooling there...among other overhead. I am sorry, but unless someone is disabled, they are not entitled to premium services, at least not from their tax-paid benefits. IF someone is that disabled...then they probably would be living in an institution anyway.
