I think the biggest problem that most Americans have is they cannot fathom the numbers in our deficit. So they make references to numbers they can fathom, like the minute amounts that Congressional benefits add up to. Mere pennies as compared to our deficit and other debts.
I liken it to the poor guy who wins 300 million in the lottery, and the first thing out of his mouth is "I am going to buy a new car". They cannot wrap their mind around the fact that the kind of money they just won could start a business that could benefit themselves and their families for generations to come.
Its scary that the financially ignorant are the ones who always bring up the subject of cutting government workers benefits...with no clue as to the real gravity of the situation this country is in.
