Solving the Issues of Granite City SchoolsArchived Message

It's old information, but I recall that the elementary schools were holding their own, while the high school and junior high were lagging a little bit.
My solution --- Rename Fehling Road...which actually runs along the boundaries of two of the schools that would offer junior high and high school education.
That's right, too many kids walking and driving on FEHLING raod...and it has had its effects for far too long!
With all respect to the Fehling family, who I am sure would not want their heritage lost...
the legacy of Mr. Fehling has to be preserved some other way.
I say that the connector between Thomas Hart Benton's Street and Mr. Johnson's Road be renamed....
Drumroll please....
EXCELLENCE STREET.
That's right, as kids walk down Excellence street or take that 30 mph curve at 50...they will instantly be pumped up as they make their way en route to Granite City's Hallowed Halls of Learning.
I know that area of town is indebted to Mr. Fehling... and I would never make fun of a person's name. However, these kids don't know any better, and one too many of them dropped out...and their last walk or drive from the school...poured out onto...you guessed it.. FEHLING Road.
(I got the inspiration from someone pointing this out on a "You know youre from Granite City if.." page on the 'Social Network.)
