Have you ever watched the move, "The Rainmaker"?
It address, fictitious of course, how large insurance company will automatically issue a denial of benefits, no matter what the circumstances, PERIOD.
In the case of this movie, they deny benefits (medical) repeatedly until the character dies.
In other words, they are more than happy for any and all customers to accept that first denial and just drop it.
First off, THEY CANNOT PROVE SHE KNEW OF HER ILLNESS, what they can't deny is a diagnosis date from the physician who made the diagnosis. Symptoms are not a diagnosis.
Tell the relative to hang tough, and if required, get an attorney whose fees will be paid by the insurance company once they realize you mean business and will not accept their drivel
