Oh wow. Ok, now we've got the strictly women's perspective on things regarding sports in summertime hot weather. Cover me, bros...I'm going in!
<takes deep breath, dons flak jacket>
You know what Lou Brock, Ted Simmons, Stan Musial and a hundred other Hall Of Fame baseball players have in common?
They played baseball in hot summer weather as children, even hotter than we poor souls in 2011 are enduring. God knows there's never been a child outdoors in hot weather playing baseball before 2011... <cue sad violin music>
These future baseball legends stepped outside on a non-air conditioned house or apartment in the 1930's, 40's, 50's and 60's to hone their craft, and damn the temperatures, they got good at what they did in really hot weather.
They dealt with it.
They didn't faint, they didn't vomit, they didn't pee in their pants. Some did, but they were off the team. The tough ones took it, they took it and they became good...then great. They weren't rushed to the hospital They didn't succumb to scary news stories from FOX 2 News.
Back in the day...they dealt with it.
They became men, and highly praised men...Hall Of Fame men, in adverse conditions. BECAUSE of adverse conditions. They took it like men and persevered through together no matter how hot it was decades ago. They went through the fire and came out the better man for it.
Flash Forward to 2011: People want to rush the children inside, "because it's too hot".
The kids today are way too mollycoddled by helicopter parents, and it's a major reason why this country is going down the crapper. You are pussifying your children. A generation of kids who expect nothing but absolute comfort. That sinks in to the point that NO adverse conditions are tolerated.
Funny thing is, the kids know this themselves. They know when they're being sheltered too much. And they are.
1900-1970: "We can deal with it, Mom."
1970-2011: "BILLY CAN'T PLAY BASEBALL...ITS 96 OUTSIDE!"
The roles have been reversed. No wonder China is beating America's ass six ways from Sunday in more ways than the crap you see in Wal-Mart.
It can deal with adversity and hot weather and make changes. The people in China...deal with it.
America: Can't. And complaining about your children playing America's sport in hot weather is a microcosm of America's future.
