Interesting, here is Houston, nearly all neighborhoods have privacy fencing. Each section of fence (like 4 feet wide) one faces your yard, one faces the neighbors, and you are responsible for maintaining the pickets facing your yard, and likewise. We have very strict Home Owners Associations that mandate that the owners maintain their fences at all times. All you have to do is report your neighbor to the HOA if there fence is in need of repair. Noone here goes without fencing, chain link or other decorative fence is not permitted. 95% of the subdivisions in our county have mandatory Home Owners Assoc. that we pay an annual fee too, mine for example is $980 per year!! Wow, just for someone to keep our neighborhoods clean, and uniform! We must get permission for everything, even repainting our home the same color. Can't leave a basketball goal out front, must have address numbers painted neatly, must not have weeds in cracks of our sidewalk/driveway etc. Oh, the money also maintains the three awesome swimming pools in my neighborhoods, the lakes and parks throughout, and the gates for gated sections of our neighborhood. I know what you are probably thinking..sounds like I live in an upscale area, for which I do not. this is the normal middle class for Houston area. My house was $160K. I live a "master planned golf course community" with many sections of subdivision...imagine the size of Emerald Meadows times 2000. I think we are up to about 2000 homes just in our little neighborhood! The higher end homes in my neighborhood go up to about $450K, right on the Golf Course, obviously, my section is not in that area. By 2000 homes, I don't mean a school district, a section of Houston, like West or South, I mean an individual neighborhood encompassed in probably 3 or 4 square miles. It is called Stone Gate and the Golf Course is Houston National. These neighborhoods are all over the city, West, South, East, North...etc. and more being built and sold constantly.
