    actually, it was told to me that by a priest and I found this out in my own research, easter is not actually what you think it is.

    This is the time of year that pre Christians used to celebrate the coming of springtime, the rebirth of stuff, (northern europeans called her ostara)

    Long story short, easter, like many other holidays (see christmas) were absorbed by the original church (Catholic in the 1000's) to ease the transition of the barbarians into Catholicism (which was the only major sect of Christianity practiced at the time, before the split into Catholicism and Protestantism).

    It is way deeper than what I just said, but you get the point.
