I thought the sewing shop on Madison Ave closed years ago? I heard the gentleman that owned it passed away.
I drove all the way to Belleville to have an old Singer looked at last year. The parts would have cost more than a new machine so I opted for the new machine. That store has since closed. The owner told me that sewing is a dying art. A lot of people just don't have the money to spare.
I'm not an expert but I dabble in sewing here and there. Mostly hemming & repairs. I bought a Baby Lock and love it. Very good, high quality, inexpensive machine. The owner from the shop in Belleville suggested Jackman's in Fairview. I have not been there yet but they do have a website.
