I am not inclined to give names of those I endorse, because I simply do not know. But I believe this fervor for the young candidates is not a bad thing and someone who pledges to go against nepotism does give me pause to at least check them out. I get tired of seeing the familiar surnames of this inbred network of public service jobs. I saw that the cop shop hired someone totally from out of town in a field of many candidates. I think the CITY is changing. I support Ed all the way. Yes, Hagnauer was not an obscure name from Granite City or Madison County politics. But when Ed came in, he didn't follow the old mandates. He came to LEAD. The culture of Granite City politics has changed. I didn't say it was perfect, but I believe they are doing a better job looking for the best qualified applicants. I am sure as Granite City approaches 3-4% black population and another 2-3% hispanic that we will see some diversity as well. We're not perfect. I support the idea that nepotism needs to be challenged, but it can't be 100% of a person's platform. Afterall, the board is an Administrative body - and I am not comfortable with someone who hasn't addressed the complex issues that a school board would deal with in their own lives --- either iwth EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE, or experience in maintenance, law, finance..etc.. Even if the young candidates wait 5-10 years, they will still be YOUNG CANDIDATES...but maybe more experienced and more capable to lead. I am not against youth at all. One of the Young Candidates (but not too young) is my age. That person is not as young as Mr. W - but that person went into the world for a few years and got some experience. I would consider that person. I am not decided on who I like yet. I believe youth and passion and vision are good things -- but I believe they need to be built on a foundation of workplace experience.
