Fact is there is Zero in the budget for PBS and NPR. Fact is there are further cuts in education.
Fact is they are still spending billions on Ethanol subsidies, subsidies for the oil industury, and on a project (the F-35) that the Pentagon doesn't even want but benefits Boehner's and Cantor's districts.
I am not so concerned about NPR. I like hearing stories that the entertainment based news media does not cover and listen to news from parts of the world that get no coverage.
However, who dedicates more time to educational programming than PBS?
I will not claim that PBS taught me how to read..but when you listen to a little child sing their ABC's to the tune of Twinkle little star - it was Sesame Street that used that song and made it popular.
It's not so much that the Mass media teaches children like a teacher can - but they can at least take what's learned in school and put the concepts to use. Use new words in a sentence, see why counting and adding and taking away are important.
So to take ALL THAT away just because of Soros and his contribution to NPR?
I haven't even touched Soros yet, I'm still in the principles of this thing. Before I consider getting into the internet scouring game - I'm just looking at the principle of it all. These people talk a good game about how we're broke and how we have to slash funding. But what are they not slashing?
It's the principle of taking away more tools of education but not taking away the things that appeal to the GOP base -- that is the rich people in the oil industry and the industry of war and the interests of the GOP who represent these people.
If the funds for the F-35 alone went into education and educational mass-media - we probably wouldn't have to cut it. But we have to keep Boehner and Cantor's pet projects alive.
