Yearly book fees in GC were $50 up until 2 years ago. The district reduced it to $25 due to the economic downturn. So at $139.00 each it could pay for itself in about 2-3 years. However my question is when we have book fees waived for students on reduced and free lunch in an effort to lessen the financial burden on families, how can we expect families to pay for an item such as the Kindle. In addition with families that have more than one child attending school the financial strain would be more.
Now having said that, how long do you think it would be before the companies producing textbooks would begin to charge for access to their product. I suspect it wouldn't take long, if it isn't already being done. So my question now is would it be less expensive for districts to access textbooks on line or purchase them as is the norm now?
