I can't say I recall that store. I had always known a Granite City with K-Mart. I love going in there, because it's about the only place in Granite that's still almost like it was when I was a kid. Don't get me wrong, change is good. It's a miracle that the piece of blacktop between Fehling Rd and Pontoon Road is still generally full.
K-Mart is about the only one left unchanged.
I hear there was a 'Grants' in there. I remembered the Kroger/Gasen's combo..and then I recall that where the new Kroger went there was something there before that I don't remember. The new Kroger was shortlived, became Schnucks, then stayed an eyesore and Shop N Save took the old Kroger, then moved to the New Kroger/Schnucks.
I recall the Old Schnucks where Big Lots is and when the current Schnucks was the New National.
What a revolving door..then the Old Shop N Save became Gliks and now Save a Lot has a little of that too.. Then the Old Save a Lot became a Cohen's. The Old Cohens..who knows.
I don't even know what Cohen's does now that it's not open as a grocery store.
But K-Mart is still K-Mart. It has changed some, but it is still practically the same as before and as the 1990's renovation starts looking old, who knows what will happen. All K-marts seem to look like ours though. I don't care, I still like K-Mart. It's the Anti Wal-Mart.
Sure liked Venture. I thought the stuff was a cut above Wal Mart and K-Mart - but not up there with Kohl's and JC Penney.
