I understand that, but for the most part, those jobs are dependent on the government. There was a time when anybody could get a private-sector working-class job. Too bad most of those jobs have been shipped overseas or replaced by computers & machines. The profits sure grew though, and lined the pockets of the wealthiest!
And yes, we are producing a huge population of "takers." But perhaps a large part of that is due to modern economics: If we have 5 people and 3 jobs, then 2 people will always be "takers," regardless of what the government does. In our country, they take welfare. In poorer countries, they steal property and resort to fighting. But nonetheless, welfare isn't beneficial after a certain point.
This nation needs to create more working-class jobs, specifically in industries that can be markets across the globe, yet many seem happy and even supportive of the ever-increasing proportion of minimum-wage no-benefit service sector jobs.
