Granite City, Illinois (KSDK)-- Police in Madison County Illinois are searching for thieves who drove a vehicle through the front glass and doors of a convenience store early Tuesday, and made off with an Illinois Lottery machine.
The crime occurred just before 2:00am today, at the Mystic Gas and Food shop on the corner of Missouri and Pontoon Roads at the Granite City boundary with Pontoon Beach.
A witness says the thief drove through the front of the store and nabbed the scratch off ticket dispenser near the doorway and fled.
Ironically, a automated teller machine was located next to the lottery ticket machine but the bandits didn't disturb it.
Investigators say the thieves will have a hard time trying to cash in any winning tickets since all of the tickets have documented distribution numbers, for tracing in the event of theft.
