It appeared to have a good chance of passing, but Donald Trump, who has a lot of control over Republicans even though he is not in office,
advised Republicans to kill the bill,which they
did. This is all verifiable.
This was the strongest immigration bill written in years, but Trump wanted it killed so he could do exactly what he is doing now. Blaming the Dems for all the problems at the border. Had the bill passed it would have at least been a good start to solving the issues at the border.
The Republicans will say the bill was not good enough, but had Trump not pressured them to kill it, it likely would have passed.
The Republicans killed their own bill, because Trump preferred to wait on use immigration as an issue in his campaign.
