I bought the equivalent Izuzu starter (used) for chump-change based on the info at Tegler's link here.

My main interest in the installation is the detail on milling down the spacer. Of course, my engine is still in boxes and baggies, but I'm really looking forward to a little extra cranking oomph (especially with the compression tweaked up a bit.

: I mentioned in another thread that I was
: going to buy a gear reduction starter
: for our GT6. I purchased one from
: "Rareelectrical" on eBay.
: With taxes it was about $130.
:
: While no modifications were supposed to
: be required, an enclosed installation
: sheet said some people simply bolted it
: in, some people removed the starter
: spacer, and some people thinned the
: spacer down.
:
: I found I needed to thin the spacer
: from 10mm to 4mm thick so the pinion
: would fully engage the ring gear and I
: needed to shorten the cable stud so it
: was not too close to my car's headers.
: With that done it bolted in without
: issue and boy is it a nice improvement
: over the inertia starter.
:
: Time will tell if this was a good
: investment or not. This is a new
: starter (not rebuilt) and it comes with
: a 1 year warranty so I am optimistic.
