I have an HP Envy 4500 e all-in-one printer set up with WiFi, which, if I remember correctly, was the only way to use a printer with a Chromebook back when Chromebooks first came into being (around the time WebTV shut down). Later they added the capability of connecting directly to the Chromebook via USB, I believe.

I prefer the WiFi set-up. I use my Chromebook on my kitchen table and have the printer in the living room.

My HP Envy 4500 printer is no longer available, BTW.

I agree with Nancy that HP printers play well with Chromebooks.
