I have a 5 gallon tote lid that I put the cb on when it's on my lap because I can use a portion of it as my mouse pad so I don't feel any heat. I have a friend with almost the same model that has stated it does get warm in her lap or rather it did but she also went to using something under it while using it on her lap.
