It really was a fantastic place. Not so much now. They had three or four motels when I lived there. They have over 200 now.We got back to Moab from Oregon just as the uranium boom hit. People had encampments all along the highway going into and out of Moab. Tents, trucks, and anything they could throw up to shelter in. Teachers did double duty. Classes from 7-12 and from 1-7. Usually 40 students in each class room for both sessions. And we went 5 days a week, teachers graded papers at night and if they were dead or dying, they might get time off for it. Nowdays, they teach around 3 1/2 days a week, then have a week for doing the paperwork and giving the parents the news as to whether Jr. was learning anything! And if they break a hangnail, they call in a sub teacher.
