Don't get me wrong i'd love to see Japan alter some of the rules around their imperial family, giving individuals an easier life, letting princesses keep their style and title after marriage and possibly returning some of the more distant branches into the Imperial family to give young Hisahito a little bit more breathing space.
Hello all, I thought I might join in on this board which I have been reading for quite a while!
I see that princess Mako has been on an official visit to Bolivia and am impressed by her quiet confidence in her supporting role of the royal family. For a relatively young member, she calmly fulfills her duty, although it must be stressful to be doing this on her "own". I quite admire her.
Interesting. I didn't know that Princess Mako carried out official duties. But she is of course the daughter of the next Japanese Emperor.
Mako is charming, popular and very well educated and has been making official visits on behalf of the royal family since 2015. El Salvador, Paraguay,Hungary, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia. While she may be the daughter of the next Japanese Emperor, should she choose to marry a commoner (she is/was engaged to a young man) she must leave the royal family upon her marriage and lose her status. So do all princesses born into the Japanese royal family. What a sadly antiquated policy. Unfortunately, there has been a dearth of eligible royal prince candidates for many years.
