Equally interesting, the current Sultan of Johor and his sister, the Queen of Malaysia (wife of the recently elected King and the Sultan of Pahang) are half British. Their father married the Devon born Josephine Ruby Trevorrow (who died in 2018) in the 1950s and then divorced her in the 60s.
The current Crown Prince of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah was born in San Francisco. His mother is an American commoner but I haven't been able to find out why he was born in America as opposed to Malaysia.
He is heir to the Sultan of Selangor and I think stands a very good chance of being elected King of Malaysia at some point in the future. Not only is Selangor the richest, most populated and most important Malaysian state but his late grandfather died in his late 70s as King of Malaysia in 2001 and ever since there has been a deliberate attempt to make sure the elected King is a bit younger.
Amir Shah's father Sultan Sharafuddinis is already 73, has never been King and will almost certainly not be elected now, the new King will reign for 5 years and then I suspect the current Deputy King, the Sultan of Perak, will be elected as he is very popular. If Sultan Sharafuddinis doesn't become King, I think it increases the chance his son will be elected King at a relatively young age.
