MCW Interview

Hi guys.. I am interviewing at MCW later this month and was looking for some advice. For anyone who has interviewed there recently, how was your experience? Also, do you remember the types of questions that you were asked? I am very nervous !

How did the interview go? Any feedback on the experience and did they mention how many more rounds of interviews remain this cycle?

The interview was good, it was pretty laid back. This was the second round of interviews and they have 3 more rounds coming up this thursday, next tuesday, and march 20. All of the invites have already been sent out. They only accept the top 2 people from each interview round and its based solely on your score from the interview. After all of those people have been offered admission, they take a second look at a few other candidates based on their scores. Definitely be able to answer behavior and situational type questions and I think having experience really helps.

Yes, unless your application was turned in yesterday or today which is the deadline. Otherwise, all applications have already been reviewed.

Yes my CASAA became verified last week, haven’t heard anything from MCW yet but hoping for an interview invite.

I am a senior completing my undergraduate degree in textiles. I have no medical background or healthcare experience. My overall GPA is a 3.83 and my science is about the same. My GRE was 150 for both sections which is relatively low. I do however have a lot of research experience and leadership experience.

Hi, I’m just an applicant and was wondering when you applied and when you got the interview invite. It’s been quiet and was going you had some info on when they do their interview screenings?

Hi.. My application was verified on January 25th and I got an interview invite on February 2nd

Thanks for the response. Did they send you a choice of interview dates or only the one option? Just seeing how many more dates they may have for this cycle.

I am actually from North Carolina I know they are highly selective and only accept between 14-16 people total for the program and only about 36 get interviews. and Thanks! I saw that too I just wanted to hear from someone who interviewed recently to know the kinds of questions that will be asked. Hopefully you get an interview!

I did call that program up and asked what was important to get admitted. They went over GPA, GRE, Medical experience, research, leadership, and I think that was it. I have heard from others that knowing the profession and showing drive is what helps when in person.

That’s a very comprehensive list of important things, pretty much encompasses the entire Casaa. During your call did they mention when they plan to hold other interview days or when they’ll be reviewing applicants?

I think its just about the applicant as a whole. Make sure that your essay really encompasses why you want to become an AA and what drives you. If you have one bad grade or a lower GRE score but make up for it the other areas, they are able to overlook that. They want to see diversity and well rounded applicants. It is not just about the grades or a test score.

This was just a phone call about 2019, not 2018. I was just trying to find out what a great applicant to them looks like.

The interview was a really fun process actually. The day before your interview you have a dinner meet-and-greet, where you get to meet some of the professors, interviewing staff, and students. That lasted about two hours and was really, really helpful. The next day you get interviews out of the way almost immediately. In my interview session, I had three separate interviews, one of which was with current students. In each interview you're asked about more or less who you are and what you're like. they can ask you anything from research experiences, about your personal essay, or fun things that you've done in extracurriculars. You might be asked why you're interested in Wisconsin, how you handle stressful situations, what you've done to help others ... But the thing I heard over and over again is that if you got an interview you are already qualified academically. Really they just want to get to know who you are as a person, and if you fit into the program.

Did you end up getting accepted ? Also, I'm not able to attend the dinner the night before as my flight won't get in until late. Do you think this will put me at a disadvantage ? Was there anyone in your interview group that wasn't able to attend the dinner

Yeah... I was accepted! It's definitely a great feeling.

And that's too bad you can't go to the dinner. I think two or three from my interview group weren't there. The reception dinner is a chance to ease the nerves and meet some people; it doesn't play a part in the interviewing decision. You'll still be A-OK as for your chances of getting in. I don't think missing will hurt your chances at all.
