I'm looking to apply to anesthesiologist assistant programs this summer. While I've been reading that medical experience is not necessary, I'm still a little skeptic. I'm looking to only apply to NOVA, Emory, and South because I have taken the GRE instead of MCAT. I have a 3.62 GPA, 300+ GRE, and I'm currently a medical scribe. The summer after my freshman year, I did volunteer as a PCT for my family doctor, but I'm not sure how important that is. I have a good bit of extracurriculars, some volunteer hours, and shadow hours.
For those of you who have applied or are in programs, is there anything that I should work on to be a more competitive applicant? I am definitely retaking the GRE.
Re: Excited but anxious! Anesthesiologist Assistant
I think your choice to retake the GRE is a wise one, but the rest of your application seems strong. You should absolutely apply. You're clearly looking in the southern us, but if geography isn't critical you should consider applying to the Medical College of Wisconsin too.
