Have hope Emory applicants

Just wanted to remind everyone who has applied at Emory to still have a little faith. According to their website interviews are being conducted Tuesday -Thursday of this week as well as Feb 3rd and possibly Feb 2nd.
In an email response that I received from Mrs. Elder this past week, they are still sending out invites.
I have seen some awesome applicants on here with amazing stats and can not see why some of you have not been given an interview yet

Also, I think it would be a good idea to start posting all our new threads on the new AA board that has been created for us. I think there definitely needs to be a STATS thread so we can all see the stats of everyone and hopefully be able to give helpful advice for the next cycle if needed. We might even see a common "thread" among us all. Who knows? It could not hurt!!!

I e-mailed Jerri Elder on Friday asking about whether Emory was done sending out interview invites and still have not received a response. I called the office earlier today and couldn't get anyone to pick up the phone.

This is getting ridiculous. What the hell is going on over there? Instead of turning to rampant speculation like many applicants seem to be forced to do, I decided to go directly to the program for answers, and even that seems to be an exercise in futility.

I was waitlisted at Nova last year (this is my first time applying to Emory) and had planned to just re-apply to Emory next August if I got rejected this time (which it looks like is happening), but now I'm seriously beginning to consider re-applying to Nova.

Obviously, those of us who haven't heard back have probably just been rejected, but why can't someone at Emory at least answer e-mails and phone calls? It's like the AA program is run as an afterthought to the medical school without any real "full time" faculty who stay in their offices for a full work day. Regardless of whether you're getting accepted to or rejected from the program, it still casts the program in an unprofessional light for them to neglect to even establish a line of communication between the program's staff and its applicants.

I also went to the program directly yesterday and talked with Eunice abot my application. She seems really sweet and eager to answer my questions. She says I'm still "under review" so maybe I still have a chance? Well maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I'm hoping there is still a chance for us. Lets just keep our fingers crossed.

Why don't you apply to the other programs like Case, UMKC, and South? From what is being described about Emory this would have turned me off to their program if I applied and never heard anything from them. That's just me now. I've had nothing but good interactions with Case in terms of getting in contact with them. I think the longest I've had to wait on a response to an email has been like 12 hours and that;s only because I sent it after 5. I already turned down Emory to attend Case starting in June but from what I'm hearing I have no doubts about my decision even though I'm from the metro Atlanta area and my mom works at their midtown hospital.

I haven't applied to UMKC because I haven't taken a full year of A&P, and I can't apply to Case because I have 2 C's in pre-requisite courses that I am re-taking. Because of a low score on one GRE section that I wasn't able to re-take in time because of the revised score reporting schedule, South told me flat-out to not even bother applying because my application would be trashed right off the bat. So really, for this cycle, Emory and Nova were my only options.

Gotcha. Well best of luck to you this cycle and if you have to reapply next year apply to as many programs as possible. It seems like you are working to improve the weak ares of your application.

Thanks. I'm definitely working on improving the weaknesses in my application. Although, I'm not sure my efforts will actually help me attain an interview, especially now that I've heard on here from several applicants who have master's degree AND healthcare experience who still got rejected. If having healthcare experience, a master's degree, and competitive test scores/GPA aren't enough to make an applicant at least competitive to be considered for an interview offer, then what on earth is Emory looking for?

I've suggested multiple times on this bored to take the MCAT instead of the GRE and use whatever score you get on that. In terms of healthcare hours most of fine are from shadowing when I was premed...maybe 150 hrs. I prob only have 10 or so with an anesthesiologist or AA. Just did the bare minimum of what was required. I am in the process of finishing up a MS in Biomedical Sciences and got my undergrad degree in Chemistry from GCSU.

I keep checking the other board but no one replies to threads there. I still can't get a confirmation that anyone received an invite who wasn't in for the early app period.

It seems weird, doesn't it? I wonder if they really have invited the majority of applicants they're going to invite or if they're going to push back the interview dates into February.

Also, I wonder if the next application cycle will begin earlier than August since the following class will start in May/June. It seems like they would almost have to open up the online application earlier than August because, even when they open up the application a year in advance (starting the cycle in August for the class entering the following August), they seem to get pretty disorganized with reviewing applications and notifying interview candidates. I can't imagine them starting the cycle at the same time (August) for a class of students that's going to matriculate even earlier in May/June. If they follow their trend of opening the online application exactly one year before the class matriculates, then that means that the next application cycle would begin this May/June.

That's a good or a bad thing, I suppose. It's a bad thing because it only gives those of us who are going to have to re-apply about 3 months to improve our applications (if we want to re-apply at the beginning of the next cycle, that is).

It's all just speculation on my part, but I will be curious to see when the next application cycle begins.

I keep checking the other board also, I think this is kind of a lull period. Everyone is on edge waiting to hear about interviews.

Someone on the new board as well as a couple people on here all mentioned that they received interview offers at the end of December and during the first week of January. Unless they are just really, really late with getting interview offers out for Feb. 2nd/3rd, I think they're probably done sending out invites. Even if they do send out one last batch of interview invites, how many are they going to invite? 10-15? So in other words, you'd have to have sent one of the top 10-15 applications they received to be in that final batch of interview offers...

Personally I think having your application done before the early interview invites gives you a much better chance of getting any interview...Although I realize that not everyone is able to do that because of waiting on test scores and other things.

So for those of you who don't get invited to interview this year and are serious about re-applying next year. Get your apps in early next year.
