Hi WFinn for starters I have the up most respect for your mother as an R.N. for being so open minded and respectful towards both anesthetists A.A.-C/C.R.N.A. .

The way I see it as an A.A.-C. you are highly respected by the ASA,M.D.A., AOA,D.O.A., AAAA,A.A.-C., AAPA,P.A.-C. and your patients you provide anesthesia care to in the ACT. With the exception you do have some open minded C.R.N.A.s who respect and work with A.A.-C.s in the ACT and to a degree who support A.A.-C.s and their right to practice in all 50 states. As for as being respected by the AANA as a whole more than likely the answer is NO!.

In reality your patients do not differentiate" between C.R.N.A. or A.A.-C. when going under anesthesia. So my question to you why are you so worry about one association (AANA) not respecting you vs. four associations + your patients = five who do respect you as an anesthetist(A.A.-C.) and as a professional. What's most important is what you put into your job as an anesthetist whether your an A.A.-C. or C.R.N.A. .

FACT:From the ASA society the observation is supported by the testimonies of many anesthesiologists M.D./D.O. who have gained valuable insights working in the ACT for decades with both NAs(C.R.N.A) and AAs(A.A.-C.,anesthesia physician extender anesthetist) who find no significant differences between the two group of professionals in their daily clinical practices.

In conclusion history as everything to do with both anesthetists and their practice that's all both are doing the same job in the ACT. Nurses that go AA-C route their masters degree is consider "MEDICAL" as an anesthetist as followed.

#1.Registered Nurse Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist, Master of Medical Science in Anesthesiology (R.N.A.A.-C.,M.M.Sc.).

#2.Registered Nurse Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist, Master of Science in Anesthesiology (R.N.A.A.-C.,M.S.A.).

#3.Registered Nurse Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant/Anesthetist, Master of Health Science in Anesthesiology (R.N.A.A.-C.,M.H.Sc.).

#4.Nurses that go CRNA route their master degree is consider "NURSING" as an anesthetist Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Master of Science in Nursing/Nurse Anesthesia (C.R.N.A., M.S.N.).

Your 100% right WFinn there shouldn't be constant battles between C.R.N.As and A.A.-C.s period when both anesthetists are working in the ACT under the supervision or medical direction of an anesthesiologist M.D. or D.O. . But I have to be honest the insecurity and dirty tactics are coming from the AANA Why?...Because they see A.A.-C.s as direct competition to C.R.N.A.s there are plenty of jobs out there available for both anesthetists to work and respect one another fact!.

The problem from the AANA and the animosity towards A.A.-C.s is "FEAR and CHANGE" but that's what nursing is about "change, acceptance, & respect for all health care providers across the board whether it's nursing profession or allied health profession. When does patient care come into the picture?.

The majority of past postings from C.R.N.A.s( not all C.R.N.A.s act like their colleagues) on here all they talked about is $$$money and boasting about their independent practice and putting down A.A.-C. profession on here trying to discourage AA-S(student AA anesthetist) from applying to AA-C program. How disrespectful and unprofessional is that when were suppose to be mature adults.

If your heart and desire is to become an A.A.-C.(anesthetist) then by all means I say go for it I know you will have the full support and blessing from your mother(who is a R.N.) and your extended family that's what should matter the most. I wish you all the best in AA-C school if you chose to pursue.
